Local procedure. Serious preparation.
Illinois law supplies the substantive framework. Local rules and case-specific orders guide preparation, filing and scheduling. Begin by identifying the immediate issue and the next required action.
Charles handles dissolution, high-asset financial disputes, parenting allocation, maintenance, property division, relocation, protective orders and post-decree matters for clients in DuPage County. For financially complex matters, the same core questions apply across jurisdictions: what property exists, how it is classified, what it is worth, what income is actually available and what evidence will be admissible when the issue is contested.

DuPage County divorce: preparing for the next step
The 18th Judicial Circuit’s official court site links to court calendars, local rules, forms and remote-appearance information. Check the assigned judge, date and current appearance instructions before planning a trip or relying on an old Zoom link.
If parenting is disputed, distinguish parent education, mediation and a court hearing. They serve different purposes. The court site also links to the county Family Center; use the official program information and the order in your case to determine what applies. For the statewide decision-making and schedule standards, use the parenting guide.
What to organize before a conversation
Keep the petition or judgment, recent orders, upcoming notices, a list of income and assets, and a short timeline of the issue you need resolved. For a parenting concern, include the existing schedule. For a payment dispute, include what was due and what was paid. Share contact details first; save sensitive documents until the firm confirms the appropriate next step.

DuPage County divorce: answers for your next step
Where do I find DuPage court dates, forms and remote-hearing information?
The 18th Judicial Circuit website links separately to the court calendar, court Zoom links, local rules and court forms. Use the case number and current notice to identify the right proceeding. Finding a Zoom link is not, by itself, confirmation that you may appear remotely for every event. Check the instructions for the hearing you are actually attending.
How should I prepare for a divorce involving a home, business or stock awards?
Create a list of the assets and the records that explain them: purchase and mortgage documents for the home, ownership and financial records for a business, and grant agreements and vesting schedules for stock compensation. Flag anything owned before marriage, inherited or received as a gift for a separate classification review. Do not assume an account title or a single balance sheet resolves the issue. See the property guide and stock-award guide.
Does hiring a Chicago-based attorney move my DuPage case to Chicago?
The office where you meet your lawyer is different from the court where the case is pending. Charles serves DuPage County clients through Beermann’s Chicago office. At the outset, identify the county and case number so the discussion focuses on the correct court, current orders and next event. A change of attorney should not be treated as a change of venue.
